One good turn…deserves many hugs

As bloggers we share, vent, offer opinions and sometimes say nothing at all for days while we busy ourselves in getting untangled from life’s occasional snares.  It all comes full circle and suddenly we’re back to writing, catching up with our favs while coping with linkys, blog buttons, follow me/follow you, comments…and, occasionally, we forget an important part of what we all do..saying “Thanks!”

Of course, there is always that fear that you might overlook someone in sharing your list of Top Blogs but, for me, anyone viewing my page can easily look to the right to see everyone I’m fond of.  My blog list isn’t made up of people who clicked on one of my posts, leaving a comment of nothing more than… “Suzy from ….www.suzy’sjockstraps.com….how about a follow back”.  Fuggedaboutit Suzy!  I’ve truly been taking time in getting to know my favs and genuinely enjoy all they post in their blogs.

I’ll bet you clicked on that link, didn’t you?

Well, for today, I’m sharing just a few of who I consider The Best of the Best by saying Thanks and sending a Hug!  I’ve decided to make sure to devote one blog each month to writing about everyone I follow and enjoy, so, please visit again!

I’ve been honored to be Melissa’s first Featured Blog this past week and I thank her so much for that opportunity!

Have to say I admire this lady, big time; she’s a no BS, direct kinda woman who doesn’t hold back in letting everyone know what she won’t stand for in the world of blogging.  Mess with her and, trust me, she WILL haunt you down!

But don’t let that stop you from visiting her wonderful blogs!

Kelli from “Narragansett No. 7
Just cannot say enough positive things about Kelli and her extraordinary writings.  In addition to being a fab Mom of three precious, and active, children, Kelli is a top notch writer.  The stories she shares often venture into topics that keep her followers mesmerized and wanting more.  Recently, in sharing issues involving her young son’s encounters with some demonic school bully, she had scores of people rallying with support.  If anyone was ever made to head a cause and fight the establishment, wearing her favorite pair of Manolo’s, it would be Kelli.

I’m proud to have her as a friend, appreciate both her support and inspiration.  Head over to her blog, click on that brown box on the right of her page.. and give this lady a VOTE!

Vic from “freckles and fudge

One of the designing women of For The Love Of Blogs, Vic is an energized, exciting lady and what I like best about her is that she’s a sarcasticist (as she describes herself).  Another, no holds barred, blogger who just makes you feel instantly at home when you spend time reading her postings.  Visit her once and you’ll wonder why you didn’t get there sooner!

I like her…..a lot!

Ashley, Vic & Lindsay from “For The Love Of Blogs

Three extremely talented ladies who are the heart and soul of FTLOB; they go out of their way to make everyone feel at home and find their place, giving advice and support to newbies (such as myself) who drop buttons and links everywhere but where they belong.  Their website is gorgeous with each day having a special feature and chances to connect with other bloggers.

Special thanks to each of you lovely ladies!

And to you, for stopping by today……

Blind Dates….

I started blogging to share my experiences in caring for a dementia-stricken parent; a lot of what I write is from my book project, “Another cookie, please!”.

Since becoming part of a wonderful blogging community called….For The Love Of Blogs, I’ve been able to think beyond past sadness and enjoy contributing writings that are fun and creative.

Well, at least I try….

Sometimes, my thinking cap manages to get twisted but, what the hell, maybe someone will smile when they read my posts.

Had a brain fart while driving to work this morning about…Blind Dates; the good, bad and even horrors of such encounters.  I now ask you to share your stories, don’t spare any sordid details either!  I want to read about how you were overtaken by numbness when Mr. Groady knocked on your door, his appearance bringing on instant nausea.

Me?  Well, I had the brief misfortune of meeting only one creature during my dating years; all it took was one whiff of something coming from his mouth that smelled like rotting chicken and it took me about a half hour to come up with some malady and I ran home…and hid.

That’s it…short and not-so-sweet for today but I look forward to hearing your most awful, yucky, disgusting, Blind Date stories.

When tears fell from the clouds…

I’ve witnessed quite a few tragedies over my years, standing as a tearful observer as the world came tumbling down on the lives of others.  Twenty five years ago, I joined millions of television viewers who watched in silent horror as the Challenger and its crew disappeared into billowing clouds of smoke; I watched the agonized faces of Christa McAuliffe’s family as they stared towards the heavens in shocked disbelief.  And I cried along with them for their loss.

The images still haunt 25 years later. – So do the words of NASA public affairs officer Steve Nesbitt during the live CNN broadcast: “Flight controllers here looking very carefully at the situation. Obviously, a major malfunction.” – The explosion of the Space Shuttle Challenger, just 73 seconds after liftoff from the Kennedy Space Center, is an iconic freeze-frame of forked smoke plumes that a generation will never forget.

It was the world’s first high-tech catastrophe to unfold on live television. Adding to the anguish was the young audience: School children everywhere tuned in that morning to watch the launch of the first schoolteacher and ordinary citizen bound for space, Christa McAuliffe.

She never made it.

McAuliffe and six others on board perished as the cameras rolled, victims of stiff O-ring seals and feeble bureaucratic decisions.

That damned “malfunction,” due to a faulty, inexpensive, O-ring in one of two solid-fuel rocket boosters, brought tears and shattered the notion that NASA — which put men on the moon — could do no wrong. Seventeen years later, a second space shuttle, the Columbia, disintegrated during re-entry into the Earth’s atmosphere over Texas, killing all seven crew members.

But it’s the Challenger that prompts the question: Where were you when the space shuttle disintegrated over the Atlantic Ocean at 11:39 a.m. on Jan. 28, 1986?

I’d like to read your comments.
