Guess what?

Another cookie, please! celebrates its first birthday this very day!  Can you believe it?

I’m truly amazed that I made it this far.  Really!

On August 20, 2010, with great trepidation, I plunked-out my first post and sat here, shaking in my seat, as my finger hovered over the Publish button.  And I thought….

  • Should I?
  • Who will read my ramblings?
  • Can I even call myself..a Writer?
  • Do I even have anything worth sharing with others?
  • Will doing this blog-thing give me that push to finish my book and become a published author?
  • Why do people blog?
  • Will I ever finish anything that I start?

Within about two weeks, and after a few posts, I had 3, maybe 4,  followers, about as many comments, and I was thrilled.  A year later, I’ve racked-up almost 142 posts, almost 1,200 comments and am blessed with 118 followers.

Who would have thunk?

To be honest, I didn’t venture out into wordland on my own, it was solely due to the influence of one very special person who I’m proud to call a friend.  She’s placed an order with the universe and is solidly on a path to realizing her dream.  I live vicariously through her, sometimes feeling angry with myself for not having that same gumption but happy that wonderful things are in her future as a writer.

Another cookie, please! is also the title of  still not finished memoirs about my mother who died in 2006 after a long battle with Dementia. Her difficult life greatly impacted mine as I was her only child and the one who ultimately became her caregiver.  Thus, the seeds for this blog were planted but after several posts, I decided to dance in and out of my book and explore my writing capabilities.  Of course sarcasm,  what makes me “me”,  has helped to light the way.

Blogging has helped me gain insight on issues we all share from so many special people I’ve met over these last months.  I’d love to mention each one, along with twenty reasons why I heart them,  but this post would end up being a gazillion words!  Readers would end up yawning,  walk away to grab another cup of something and end up hopping onto another blog.

Better idea.  Just look over at my Blogroll of Besties=====>

This year has been a time of learning and growth, as with any newborn.  Battles with Blogger caused my move here to WordPress where I’m still trying to feel at home, constantly tripping over little issues, as I stumble along.  My first blog-steps have been well…exciting, to say the least.

From the bottom of my heart, thanks to everyone who follows this little blog and takes the time to leave smiles in the way of comments.

Maybe I really am a Writer after all!

Double Bubble Cocktail

This is positively weird, even silly,  but I couldn’t resist sharing this cocktail.

                                               Got Gum?

Not just any gum, we’re talkin’ good ol’ Double Bubble here!

Oh stop!  Don’t go “eeewwww” and stick up your nose, where is your sense of adventure?  Give it a try…okay?

Good!

You will need…

  • 16 pieces bubblegum, preferably Double Bubble, cut in half
  • 2 cups (16 ounces) vodka
  • 1 tablespoon (1/2 ounce) freshly squeezed lemon juice (from ½ lemon)
  • 1 tablespoon (1/2 ounce) freshly squeezed lime juice (from ½ lime)
  • 1 tablespoon (1/2 ounce) simple syrup
  • 1/2 egg white* or 1 tablespoon pasteurized liquid egg whites (optional)
  • 1 cup ice

*The egg white in this recipe is not cooked. If there is a problem with salmonella in your area omit the egg white or use pasteurized egg whites.

Next….

In large airtight container, combine bubblegum and vodka. Seal and allow to infuse, stirring every 6 hours, for 24 hours. Pour vodka through fine mesh strainer, discarding bubble gum.

In cocktail shaker, stir together 2 ounces bubblegum-infused vodka, lemon juice, lime juice, simple syrup, and egg white if using. Add ice and shake vigorously for 20 seconds. Strain into a chilled coupe (champagne) glass.

So pretty in pink….and tasty, too!

Fields of Gold

A hauntingly beautiful song by Eva Cassidy comes to mind as we walk through Fields of Gold…

Many years have passed since those summer days

Among the fields of barley

See the children run as the sun goes down

Among the fields of gold

A young couple, still with childhood innocence, hold each other tightly as they discover the beauty of nature and each other.  At this moment, as they walk  through meadows of endless yellow flowers, there is no way of knowing the pain that will follow the absolute joys of a first love; not in this wonderful place where the earth reaches up to wrap them in its colorful warmth.

So she took her love

For to gaze awhile

Upon the fields of barley

In his arms she fell as her hair came down

Among the fields of gold

Will you stay with me, will you be my love

Among the fields of barley

We’ll forget the sun in his jealous sky

As we lie in fields of gold

Summer ends and with it so does the young love that began with the sunburst of yellow in the meadow.  As she sits, alone, grasping the flowers who hold so many secrets, a girl desperately tries not to lose touch with the magic that made a summer affair seem so special.
