Broken…

“Look past the brokenness of others-because, quite frankly, we are all beautifully broken.”

This reached out to me after a friend’s post recently.  Although I’m not very religious, there was just something about so much of what’s behind these simple words.

Life can break us in ways large and small.   The damage may lie deep within, hidden from others who are often quick to judge what they cannot see.   Being, and staying, broken leaves us hurt, angry, and confused. Being broken open leads to self-awareness, empathy, and compassion.   Ultimately, it leads to healing, always for ourselves and sometimes for others.

Ernest Hemingway wrote in his novel A Farewell to Arms: “The world breaks everyone and afterward many are strong in the broken places.” Not only are some strong there . . . some are down right beautiful.

Be beautiful, broken, wonderful, whole, and help someone else with your hope and love.

It’s so true. Sometimes when my kids complain about other kids at school that are mean or act out in class, I try to keep them grounded by replying, “I wonder what happened to them in their life to make them act like that. Must have been something awful…” It always gives them some pause. I don’t want to dismiss bad behavior due to their past, but at least it gives us some sort of basis. Great quote!

Thanks so much, Kat! My apologies for whatever happened when I linked-up this morning; received an error message and then discovered my submission was on your site twice. In any event, I so enjoy the inspiration you provide!

Eleven lines, eleven sentences… I think they’re both the same thing.

I always confuse “A Farewell To Arms” with “The Sun Also Rises,” for whatever reason. I’ve read the latter, but not the former.

Nicely done, and your website looks great!

    • Patty says:

Thank you, John! After all this time waiting to get my site operational again, it feels great to get back to my writing.

  3. Such Powerful & Truthful Words! It’s amazing how resilient the human spirit truly is at times of life’s trails. But with out “LOVE” we lose “HOPE” that’s why we must always try to reach out and help one another, because we are all meant to be broken some more then others. Thanks so much for sharing this Patty you are such a Beautiful & Loving Soul!! 🙏God Bless You😘

Thanks so much, Jeannie! Taking words like this and putting them into some type of positive action…that is what\’s important. Not always an easy task but helping others, even in the smallest manner, is part of the healing process we all can benefit from.
